Strategies for
nature conservation
As humanity, we are facing the biggest climate and biodiversity loss crisis of our history. Thus, we need to make big changes in record time using limited resources. That is why strategy is so important to protect what gives us life.

I) Mexico 2030 Sustainable Tourism Strategy
Even Though Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world, tourism is not an inclusive sector, locals don't have economical benefits and destinations suffer severe environmental impacts through massive tourism growth. And when the pandemic arrived tourism actually was the most economically affected sector, so we understand this crisis as a great opportunity to shift tourism in Mexico, this is how Mexico 2030 Sustainable Tourism Strategy started, as an exercise of collaborative innovation between more than 140 civil society organizations, government, international cooperation, companies, indigenous and local communities, NGO's, universities, investors and travelers.
The vision is to transform Mexico into a world leader in sustainable tourism by 2030, where tourism will be:
- Socially inclusive.
- Economically fair.
- Environmentally responsible.
II) PLIB (Biodiversity investment platform)
PLIB is an initiative of BIOFIN México that has the objective to connect in a direct way investors with small producers in Mexico rural areas that are actually taking care of biodiversity, boosting bioeconomy models.
Based on our experience in technology and biodiversity, Biofin invited us to help design and build the PLIB platform, which started with the idea of creating the “Tinder for biodiversity investment”.
With PLIB local producers can:
- Publish financial needs and access to competitive loans and grants.
- Access to free online courses in order to be more competitive.
- Connect with retail clients and sales allies.
III) Kuxatur
Kuxatur is the short name for “Mainstreaming Biodiversity Conservation Criteria in Mexico's Tourism Sector with Emphasis on Biodiversity-rich Coastal Ecosystems” a project financed by GEF and implemented through the United Nations and Mexican Tourism Secretary. Kuxatur is a pioneer project that links biodiversity and tourism, and resulted from COP13 in 2016.
We had the pleasure to create the strategy to communicate the kuxatur project importance, creating the brand assets, the official web-page www.kuxatur.com and beautiful footage videos for the 3 pilot destinations:
- Maya Ka'an, Quintana Roo.
- Costa Oaxaca, Oaxaca.
- La Paz, Sierra la Laguna, Baja California Sur.
IV) Maya Ka'an
Maya Ka'an is one of the newest destinations of Caribe Mexicano in Quintana Roo and a indigenous and community based tourism destination, where Mayan culture and biodiversity protection are key drivers in order to build a different kind of tourism compared with its neighbor Cancún.
Our work started helping Maya Ka'an communities to identify their value proposition as a destination and also their vision about tourism, then create a brand new website for mayakaan.travel including biodiversity criteria, branding elements and finally developing innovative and sustainable products that fit the emerging market needs.
V) Costa Magia
On 2021 our friends of “Fondo Oaxaqueño para la Conservación” asked for our help, they had the vision to create the first community based and 100% conservation committed sun and beach tourism destination, this as an social inclusion and nature preservation of the cast of Oaxaca between Puerto Escondido and Huatulco, 2 fast emerging destinations that are following the massive tourism steps and thus generating important impacts to environment and social exclusion.
In this way we started working on the field in order to better understand the necessities of the 12 local cooperatives that started as the heart of this project, and also to understand the value proposition to these people in order to become the first travel destination of this kind in the world. The strategy design for the destination ended with the creation of the brand “Costa Magia”, a collaboration between Natoure and Nacho Studio.
